Discovering My True Authentic Self

As we enter the third month of 2013, I can honestly say that, so far this year, has been a truly intense time in my life!

God has taken charge to shift and move EVERYTHING in my life... Inside and Out... Home, Family, Relationships, Ministry, Diet, Lifestyle, etc... etc... etc... Nothing has been sacred and nothing has been allowed to remain hidden in me! My life and my heart is being exposed, scrutinized, purged and processed with one goal in mind...

To Discover My True Authentic Self & Live That Life!

I'm learning that there is an identity that we live by... That we've created, adopted and embraced over time, that's completely different than the identity that God has divinely designed for us.

As we live and grow and experience life, we can take on a persona - a way of thinking and behaving - that's not always a true expression of who we really are and how we actually feel. This lack of authenticity breeds such insecurity and mistrust because it takes a lot of effort to pretend to be someone other than your true authentic self.

When we're literally living this lie, it causes us to doubt the way others really feel about us. Even when they're being completely honest, we don't trust their words because we know, deep in our hearts, that the person they're trying to love doesn't really exist.

The persona we're living before them is a mere shadow and an inaccurate representation of who we really are. And that conflict that dwells in us, won't allow us to fully love ourselves, so we don't give others permission to fully and genuinely love us!

Therefore, the journey to wholeness is a process of learning to truly know ourselves and to love ourselves so that we can fully give and receive love. And this begins by discovering the truth in our own hearts. When we learn to embrace and walk as our true authentic self, only then will the pure, authentic love of God become the anchor and foundation of our lives.

As long as we continue to live the lie we create for ourselves, we'll continue to fail to walk in the fullness of who God has created us to be. We must grow to be free... To be who God has made us to be!

This journey can also be called, "Learning to Walk in Integrity!" I got a glimpse of what this meant a few years ago via some wisdom shared by Deborah Cardona~

“Living with integrity means this:

Not settling for less than what you know you deserve in your relationships.

Asking for what you want and need from others.

Speaking your truth, even though it might create conflict or tension.

Behaving in ways that are in harmony with your personal values.

Making choices based on what you believe, and not what others believe.”

For me, the most important thing I gained from this is learning to Speak My Truth! I've been one to hide what I feel to avoid being disliked or to avoid disappointing others... Nearly to the degree that I lost my voice as I denied myself the right to have or express an opinion. Thank God that's changed because denying my own voice led to denying, ignoring, devaluing the beauty and uniqueness of God's creation.

So I've learned to speak this truth and I encourage you to do the same:

I was Created in God's Image & God Makes No Mistakes

To Put Myself Down For the Way I Am Is to Insult God's Handiwork

I Am Beauty
I Am Strength
I Am Love
I Am God's Perfect Creation & He Takes Great Joy In ME!!!

So... I bet you're wondering how I've evolved since I began this journey of discovery???

Well, here's a biggie:

I discovered that I really don't "like" meat or eggs, but since I was taught as a child to eat whatever was placed before me, I've spent years forcing myself to tolerate foods that don't really appeal to me. Once I made peace with that conflict in my own soul, I've embraced my inner vegetarian and my diet has taken me on a whole new path!

Surprisingly, I've never been happier and more satisfied with my choice, my health and the future outcomes from this lifestyle change! More about this part of my journey in the weeks and months to come!

I pray this blesses your life!

Melissa
